Golf - Improve Your Game - How can I Improve My Swing Speed?

There are three main ways to improve your game - better technique, more strength and better equipment. It's always tempting to go for the easy fix of new and better equipment, but we often find ourselves disappointed when the hoped for results don't materialise!

In this article we'll look at how to Increase Your Golf Swing Speed

As a result of this article you should be able to hit longer, straighter drives. You may have heard of swing speed and it's obviously got something to do with achieving longer drives, but how can you increase your golf swing speed?

Now many of us may think that the way to increase swing speed is to swing harder. The trouble is when most of us try this we are disappointed with the results. Our game seems to get worse! If we tense ourselves to do this our golf swing speed actually ends up being slower!

The result is often we give up and just carry on as before!

So how can you succesfully achieve that elusive higher golf swing speed? Read on...

First lets ask what the main movement is in the golf swing!

It's rotational! - and that's true of many sports. It starts with your engine. The centre of your machine. The stronger and more flexible you get your core, the faster the arms, hands and club will come through without swinging harder. Resulting in longer and much straighter drives.

To achieve faster swing speeds you don't need to go and do weight lifting exercises, but there are some exercises that will help you - so you are using your strength but with flexibility. Try these...

• Sit in an upright position with a club on your shoulders behind your neck.
• Hold each end of the club with your hands.
• While facing forward, focusing straight ahead, rotate to the right and back to the left.
• You will probably feel tight and restricted at first.
• Maintain an erect posture with your eyes straight ahead.
• Do this slowly at first, then build up your speed.
• Rotate back and through 10 times for 3 sets.

Keep doing this exercise regularly. This is a starting (basic) core exercise that will make a real difference. You will soon notice a difference in your range of motion and power output on the course quickly.

With just a little bit of effort you will see a dramatic increase in golf swing speed!
